Inside Look at College Admissions

Connecting Admissions Recruiters and Underrepresented Minority High School Seniors

Sponsored by Johns Hopkins University and MCPS NAACP Parent Council

This event for underrepresented minority high school seniors and college admissions officers, who are responsible for admitting students of color, is being held in recognition of the unique challenges facing underrepresented minority students, during the college admissions process. The evening offers a unique experience for underrepresented minorities to gain exposure to the nuanced admissions processes of colleges and universities that fit their interests. Additionally, students will be exposed to financial aid and academic resources. Unlike large all-inclusive college fairs, and pre-programmed slide presentations, the evening will give students an opportunity to talk one-on-one with Admissions Recruiters in a small, interactive environment.

WHS-Online Silent Auction

Wheaton HS PTSA is hosting its second, online Silent Auction beginning Monday, December 2nd.  We are hoping to match last year’s auction, which raised $2,400.

This year we are expanding our fundraising efforts to go beyond our support of the Post Prom Party, to include a senior scholarship of $1,000, mini-grant funding for teachers in addition to the ability to assist student-centered events such as International Night and other worthwhile activities.

Our senior scholarship will be awarded to a student who is successfully accepted into a trade school or apprenticeship program. Our school is fortunate to have several alumni who offer scholarships in support of students who choose to go to college. However, your PTSA believes it is important to also recognize those students who are looking to succeed in other career paths.

Please support our fundraising efforts:

  • Ask the businesses you frequent (restaurants, salons, dog walkers, lawn care companies, etc.) to make a donation.
  • Perhaps you own a business/service and would like to donate to the auction.
  • Do you have tickets/passes to a sporting event, a vacation home get-away, etc. you could donate?
  • Maybe you’re able to volunteer with this or other fundraising efforts?

To get a copy of the donation letter, or with questions, please contact Gillian at gillianehay@gmail.com or 240-429-6268.

The Wheaton High School PTSA is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) entity, all donations are tax-deductible.
